Devendra Banhart, American singer-songwriter most often linked with the modern hippy, folk, and psychadelia scene, has been releasing music since 2002. Formed musically in the San Francisco scene, he has had a huge influence on what has been termed the freak-folk movement, a consciously oddball type of self-expression. With a trembling voice and fluttering acoustic guitar, his intricate compositions give an alternative perspective on intimate musings. From Cripple Crow to his latest What Will We Be, his songs have been lovable and, more and more, rich and communicative.
