Lee Fields grew up singing in churches and absorbing the rhythm and blues of 60s Memphis. After several successful recordings with the groups that lead the funk movement, he teamed up with hard funk collective Truth & Funk, who in 2004 started up a label and set about putting out a first record. This record was to sum up the sweet yet raw soul of groups like The Moments and The Delafonics. The group of musicians making the record became known as The Expressions, and Lee Fields became their front man. Such is the chemistry of the group that they have continued and are making soul that is at once historically sensitive and accessible for the modern generation of neo-soul lovers.
